What’s the goto VMs these days?
I used Virtual Box in years past but thought I heard VMware was now free.

I use VirtualBox but have issues a lot, maybe me, probably me, nah positive… its me
I’ve used VirtualBox with no issues in the past but this was not in a professional setting, and I wasn’t using Rockwell Software or having to plugin in adapters, serial cables, etc.
We use VMWare Workstation for work, and it’s fine (for the most part, certainly has issues, as all software now days). They did release it for free even for commercial use.
I use VirtualBox on Windows and Linux. Their use in a commercial environment was more flexible.
What kind of issues? Most people I help are having network related issues. It’s usually a lack of understanding on bridged vs NAT configuration for the adapt
`Don’t feel bad.
I use VMWare because I’ve tried to get VirtualBox running (I think 3 separate times) and was never able to get it running.
Haven’t tried it on Linux yet as I’m still learning it
Next time I am at my office I will take a screen shot of the issues
I have virtual box and VMWare running on an 8 year old laptop, running Linux Mint. It took a lot longer to get VMWare running, but it is my favorite. Mostly because all my virtual machines were made with it, and I’m used to it.
Most people struggle with the network settings, but I’ve never had any major issues.
Huh, I’ve probably setup 50 or more VBox VM’s, all combinations of Linux/Windows host/guest. It’s always been: Add a new VM, create the disk, point it to the guest OS ISO, off it goes.
Thanks All.
V-Box it is.
To be fair, VBox has it’s issues. USB can be finicky, bugs come up here and there. It has worked well enough for me. Less buggy than FTVSME.
Be sure to install the guest additions and extension pack, you’ll be fine.
Store brand applesauce is less buggy than FTV.
I have one running a robot that loads a Mazak Integrex complete with an old school 56k baud modem that can phone home for help on the old analog phone lines. No problems whatsoever.
