I had recommended Mark’s UIC cable for a while on PLCTalk. I must have mentioned at some point that I didn’t personally have one, but I vouched for the products he sold (as if anyone cared what my opinion is lol).
Some time later, I ordered some 1747-CP3 cables from him. In the box were the CP3 cables I ordered plus a UIC. I emailed that they accidentally included a UIC in my order, I was going to send it back. He responded, you recommend it enough, I figured you should have your own…
I thought it was pretty cool that he even noticed my recommendations plus made the connection when I placed an order. Whenever I recommend your site @geniusintraining I always let people know that your’re one of us. Cheers!
Thats funny, how time fly’s by… I remember that, I also remember that you helped me when PVs (6-7) changed over and no one told me
I always thought our industry is small and networking can help us all, most of us overtime can figure out our automation issues but if we help each other it sure can save some time and thats one thing we never can get back or find enough of.
Some of my best memories of our industry was helping people out and they send you some of the products they produce, I helped one person in Hawaii and he sent me some macadamia nuts (oh my God) and another sent some coffee after I was able to get his roaster up and running.
Sometimes its the small gestures that make the difference and help you build friends.
My strange story is while at a customer shop they ruined my UIC and said they would replace it.
I gave them the PLC Cables link for it, but they said they were going to buy one they found on eBay for half the price (a new one) and have it sent directly to me.
Imagine my surprise when it showed up with a PLC Cables mailing label shipped to me, but sold to eBay guy.
Either that eBay guy is getting a big discount, or he’s losing money to make sales. (Or Mark has a secret discount account??)
We finally killed our last S7 MPI cable, and we got a quote from Siemens for a new one. Needless to say the price for a single cable was insane. So I told my coworker who had never heard of PLCCable to go there and check. He ordered every engineer their own MPI cable for a fraction of the cost, and to be honest I think they are far less glitchy than the old Siemens one we had. Since then he has ordered a lot of different cables. I myself have ordered at least two dozen between different companies and have been very happy with all of them and never have had any issues.
When I worked in a stamping plant I purchased all out air and hydraulic stuff from Matzka in Warren.
During the summer they always threw a few suckers in the orders, and during the colder months it was a Hershey chocolate bar.
Once I opened a box and instead of packing peanuts or bubble wrap they packed the part in 3 pounds of suckers.;
I miss dealing with Wayne, he had a nice sarcastic sense of humor too
Of course he was outdone by Dan from Bearing Services that brought to the shop a large bag of fresh bagels and 3 or 4 tubs of cream cheese every time he visited.
When the Igus guys would visit, they always brought pens with them. They have great pens. I convinced our marketing team to switch to the same pens so I didn’t have to wait for the Igus people to visit.
I used to work for Big Oil. I took a trip a refinery in Italy to sort out the details of a project; someone told me to bring a pocketful of mechanical pencils with the corporate logo. The meeting literally stopped when I brought out the pencils, even the refinery manager was pleased at getting a few, and who got how many gave me a rough idea of the pecking order.
