Good Idea Genius.
I’m just going to lurk for a while
I think PLCTalk is going south.

Wonder if Mr Roach will be joining.
I’ll be watching.

I would love for Ken to join, I dont have his email anymore… Ron Beaufort tried to join yesterday but he’s having PC issues, I sent Steve and Brian and email but haven’t see them yet
One big problem I see…. if all we have are the guys that answer the questions then its kind pointless
I think I can count on one hand the last time the guys that have joined have asked “can some one help” or I think its been a longer time since someone has asked for help with home work, I remember about 6 months ago I saw a post from Ken asking for something on PLCTalk
We have all the talent to answer the questions but no one to ask…
I’ll send him an email
Any more Badges and I’ll start feeling like a boy scout again ![]()
I’m not as disenchanted as some of the others about what’s going on at PLCTalk. When I check in there I go directly to the forum and never see the home page and the ads. I’m still willing to take @eerob’s word at face value.
That being said, I’ll add this site to my list of usual suspects and stop by often. Being retired, I’m not making any effort to keep up with developments in the automation field other than what I learn by participating on sites like these. I expect the bulk of my posts here will be my trademark inappropriate sarcasm unless someone posts a question that require me to demonstrate once again that I stand on the leading edge of obsolete technology.
Hi Steve,
Thanks for joining, the only issue I have with the new PLCTalk is the lack of communication, I have had a few PM’s with eerob and he seams like a nice (smart) guy, I think… the new owner has contracted him or his company to run the backend, they still (I think) need someone on the frontend, they (whomever they are) paid a lot of money for Phil’s site, at face value the traffic was/is worth 40K+ so whatever they paid they need to get their investment back and turn a profit and if the leave the forum alone I think most people will stay and support the users, myself included
I did not make this site to take away from PLCTalk but if something happened there I wanted a place to go and see my automation friends, I built my business from that site (as you know and with your help) and I know of several others that did as well Jeff, Tim, Ron, etc so it would be a shame if something happened.
Please stop by as often as you would like, as your ‘inappropriate sarcasm’ is welcome… speaking of, I thought about reaching out to Terry Woods’ see if he wanted to join
he would lighten up the party…
If you could locate Terry and get him to participate here, that would be a hoot! Terry, Tom Jenkins, Iant, rootboy and I were early adopters of Phil’s forum back around 1997. Iant and rootboy participated under their real names back then.
I sent a few private messages. I was surprised to see that Iant hadn’t posted since 2022?
Ummm
There are users on the “OTHER” site that are not happy with the experience. Will boree (Spelled backwards just for fun, use your super spy decoder ring), find out if is just subtly drop the IP every now and then in a DM
Just a thought ![]()
It looks like his last visit was Jan 2025 from what I am seeing
I had Terry Woods email way back when his kid got into acting, I sent him a PM see if he gets it
There were a TON of people if we could contact them, Elevator Mike, Lancie1, Bernie Carlton, and so many more that just faded into the sunset…
I sent Lancie an email this AM, see if he responds, it would be good to hear from them all
Maybe this will be like a PLC style of “Field of Dreams” …. build it and they will come
Here’s one for yah Steve, what was the guys name from Utah and in his user emoji he was pushing a rock up the hill, was it Arlic? I thought he changed his name also?
I thought that seemed weird.
Its still be 7 months

Found him by googling “Alaric plctalk.net”
Can you hook your own server to your website?
You can download the Discourse software and run your own version on your server free. Might not cost $1,200 to $2,000 annually on your own as long as your ISP allows the traffic.
EDIT:
Prefer to self-host and handle installation, upgrades, and maintenance yourself? You can install our free open-source Discourse software from GitHub.
Better late than never.
How is everyone doing?
And dmroeder said to mention that he sent me.
So Phil retired? Did we have a party for him?
Haha, I was kidding. Nobody really knew he retired until he was gone.
I figured as much but why not.
I hate to see the old haunts under new management, but it’s far better than seeing the site close down.
Welcome to the other side rootboy, we have just about everyone here but we are still lacking traffic
