If you click the bars next to the forum title (top left corner), this will open a menu down the left hand side of the display. Third option down is “My Messages”, click on that and you will have the option to message forum members, and read messages sent to you.
I have tried to enable user location but it looks like the only option for that is if your hosting and then you have to upload some code from GitHub but since I am not hosting I dont think I have access to where I need to place the code
For the upload area, I think I may need to do that on my other site but still looking into it, I had a phone call with Ron Beaufort and he has a lot of his old information that was lost on PLCTalk and if we get enough members I may try uploading his old threads…
Yes I will look into options once we get enough members and traffic, I want to make sure we are all going to hang out here every once in awhile
I have a feeling this will be more of a conversation website for awhile until we get enough members to talk about automation which is fine, I just dont know how many of us have a lot of ‘spare time’
When a new member signs up ask them specifically if they are a student and include a notice that it’s not going to be accepted well if a student pretends to be a working PLC programmer that is stuck on an idea that is a homework assignment. Say that you are a student and show what you have done so far and the members will be glad to help you learn, but don’t expect to have your homework done for you.
A lot of the forum was setup and default, I went through a lot but there are pages of options so it will be a slow grind to get where everyone likes the setup, I have a list of things that either need to edit or improve and its getting longer
User location - even if it wasn’t accurate seeing where a user was located did help if product recommendations were required.
Online users - While browsing/viewing/responding it was nice seeing how was online at the particular time
Post order - None of the forums have this, but could a user preference be for post order to be newest-oldest while viewing a thread? Discourse actually takes you to your first unread post.
Upload area - This is one thing that i do like on Chris’s site. Example code etc.
DM’s - I’ve looked but can’t see how to message a particular user ( even admin ) @KenMoore helped me out here.
Closing of solved / old threads to prevent old threads being resurrected.
BTW Mark, the site works great on mobile devices too. Really like it.
