Blackout today. 3rd outage this year so far.
Outage caused by high winds, but sunny with no storms and barely a light breeze when it went out.
DTE outage map shows thousands of local outages effecting 5 to 499 people. All power is out for everyone. If they admit 500 are out they have a time limit on response, over 1000 it gets shorter, over 2500 down to 2 hours, and the whole area has to be an immediate response - so only 499 people are out in thousands of areas so there’s no hurry.
Plus - even tough I have a reporting smart meter I had to go to their outage system to report my house out. Before I reported the outage it showed I had power, then I was added to a group of 5 people out.
Initial estimate is restored by 11:59PM Monday. (Happy 4th!) The last outage they sent me a text that said my meter was back powered and if I still had any trouble it had to be inside my house - that text was received 6 minutes BEFORE my power was restored.
I have in my house 5 UPS’s, a 6800W generator, standby grill with multiple propane tanks, 3 USB battery banks, 2 solar battery banks and a charged 12V battery with power inverter - and I still need to upgrade!
If I build a house, or buy another one, it will have a good solar battery system, ALL lights in the house will be 12V, 48VDC ceiling fans, well pump(if), furnace blower, deep freezer, refrigerator. There will be 12V ports for cable modem, routers, network switches, Blueray players, 12V monitors, laptop charging, speakerbars, NAS, thermostats, cameras, phone charging, and everything else I can run off it.
I can’t rely on DTE to provide power
EDIT: I do want to find out why my CyberPower UPS’s (and ONLY the CyberPower ones) don’t like generator power - they keep turning on & off and when on show not charging with the battery % constantly dropping. I even put a line filter on the cords going to them and it didn’t help.
